State-Wide Week of Service
To celebrate The Arc New York’s 75th anniversary, our state office organized a Week of Service from June 1-8 across all chapters in New York. This special week honored our organization’s long history of supporting people with developmental disabilities and promoted inclusion in our communities throughout the state. The goal was to complete 75 service projects in just one week, focusing on improving parks, neighborhoods, and communities statewide.
The Arc Westchester enthusiastically participated in this event. While our day services regularly engage in volunteer activities year-round, we saw this as a chance for our management staff to join our participants across the county. Together, we worked on various projects to make a positive impact in areas that needed our help. Everyone wore special t-shirts designed for this memorable event. See some of the highlights below.
914CARES in Armonk
This is an amazing distribution center for clothing, diapers, books, and hygiene products to families in need throughout Westchester County. Members of The Arc Westchester staff, including CEO Tibi Guzman and Executive Director Paul Torres, and participants sorted and bagged necessity items on Day 1 and delivered to local schools for distribution on Day 2.
Don Bosco, Port Chester
Their mission is to enable all people to live healthy and productive lives, the Don Bosco Center has programs to provide access to food security and support. Our staff and participants delivered meals on wheels and worked in the soup kitchen.
GIGI’s Playhouse, Ardsley
This non-profit delivers free educational, therapeutic and other programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families through a replicable playhouse model. Our volunteers sanitized the playhouse after each use.
