A Powerful Day of Advocacy: Rally in the Valley 2026
Representatives from The Arc Westchester’s day programs and staff joined more than 3,000 attendees at the “Rally in the Valley” held at SUNY Rockland Community College, calling for increased funding and a stronger workforce to support people with disabilities. The event brought together people with disabilities, their families, advocates, and organizations from across the Hudson Valley. Supporters filled the gymnasium, cheering and holding signs while urging state and federal leaders to invest more in services and supports.
Speakers included Erik Geizer, CEO of The Arc New York, Senators Bill Weber, Pete Harckham, and Shelly Mayer, as well as Congressman Mike Lawler, who all voiced their support for the community.
It was a powerful and inspiring day of advocacy, and we are deeply grateful to Jawonio for organizing such an important event. The rally provided a meaningful opportunity for the people we support to raise their voices, share their experiences, and stand in solidarity with fellow advocates from across the Hudson Valley.
Moments like these remind us how powerful collective advocacy can be when individuals, families, and organizations come together around a shared purpose. We are especially thankful to our dedicated staff who made the trip and supported the people we serve throughout the day. Their commitment helps ensure that every voice is heard and that our community continues to advocate for the resources and recognition people with developmental disabilities deserve.
